TAKE A BREAK

When was the last time you allowed your mind to think of nothing other than just being present? Yes, birds actually do sing very sweetly if you just took the time to stop and listen to them. But, we hear your anguish. Who has time to even hear a leaf rustle when there are lunches to pack, laundry to sort, emails to answer, chicken to defrost for dinner, dogs to feed, or any other psychotic action confronting us the minute we get out of bed. It is a miracle we continue to operate in some semblance of sanity each day without our bodies starting a riot.

That is why we at Gift Izzy love David Dillard-Wright’s, A Mindful Morning. His nuggets of sage advice help us start each day with a clear mind and an open heart. What good are we to others, if we don’t love ourselves first? Actually we are no good to anyone when we are struck down by some sort of illness. So in the spirit of loving yourself, take a few minutes to savor your own personal moment before getting out of bed. Open your window and hear the birds sing, breathe slow and deep filling your lungs, and try to experience all your thoughts and senses before starting each day. Think about your needs, tame your inner dialogue and draw inspiration from nature outside because you’ve earned it.
